Numerology Calculator

A NUMEROLOGY MACHINE, based on this calculator, features in my science fiction book TIME AERIALS:

She sat at the kitchen counter sipping tea and munching biscuits. It’s the letter-to-number swap, she realised, A, B, C, to 1, 2, 3, is too simple—the universe would pick something fancier. She stared at the screen. Where to begin? Pi was an obvious choice, A=3, B=1, C=4, D=1. And so was the golden ratio. And dozens of physical constants could also work… For hours she typed code, building a program that could search for interesting number-maps to test. Then she stood up, stretched, yawned, and went to bed...

...The Great Mind was pleased with its numerology game. It was hard to stitch names and numbers into destiny, but the result was satisfying—like holding puppet strings. And a working numerology made people believe in a cosmic poet, and the Great Mind—artist that it was—enjoyed the recognition. But numerology had broken reality, and everything had snapped back and reset. The Great Mind watched the story loop—the endless stitch and crash. Then it got bored. It was time to uncouple destiny from letters and numbers, and time to let Alice and Heather get off the treadmill. It was time to make reality simple again. Much simpler…
