Smallpox in the News


Here's my brand new (rendered this weekend) animation of a smallpox virion (virus particle) rotating to show its internal structures. This is a complex dissection of the model with the DNA in the core shown as a purple, biconcave slab in the middle. Today I saw this article on the Australian ABC News about the 1789 Sydney outbreak. Smallpox is always there in the background (despite being extinct in the wild). Smallpox (Variola) is the prototypic biowarfare agent that strikes terror into everyone.
